Taipans see red as Warriors cruise to the next round
Dural Warriors 5 South Coast Taipans 0
Dural Warriors booked their passage to the next round of the finals with a comprehensive 5-0 win over an out of sorts South Coast in a match that featured a fine hat trick from Durals Jacquie Frier.
In the opening exchanges Dural were having the better possession but the Taipans were finding space to attack on the counter and looked dangerous.
But it was Dural who grabbed the early breakthrough when a Taipans shot on goal was diffused by Keeper Rachel Hui who ran the ball clear out of her area slipped the ball to Kristie Liddle who set up a nicely weighted pass for Caitlyn Mahoney to run onto and score.
Dural extended their lead when the South Coast defence failed to clear a ball that awkwardly bounced around the edge of the area before falling to Jacquie Frier to open her account and give the Warriors a solid 2-0 lead.
The Taipans pressed hard to get back into the game, Joline Bohne had a shot saved by the keeper and then Caitlyn Danyl had a goal bound shot tipped over the bar by keeper Rachel Hui.
Things just got worse for the Taipans when a quick counter attack saw Durals Demelza Howard lay the ball on for the overlapping Jacquie Frier who slammed the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 3-0.
The Taipans kept fighting and this time Courtney Danyl was denied by keeper Hui.
With only minute left of the first half Dural nearly made it four when a pass down court was latched onto by Sarah Codrington whose acrobatic lob over the keeper crashed onto the crossbar and away to safety.
Dural began the second half with a prolonged spell of possession which started to frustrate the Taipans team who were desperately trying to get back into the game. Caitlyn Danyl made a superb block to stop Sam Stenner from extending Durals lead.
Dural virtually put the game out of reach when Sarah Codrington set up Jacquie Frier to slam home her hat trick of goals to make it 4-0.
Nothing much seemed to be going right for the Taipans on the day as much of their shooting was off target and all efforts on target was being saved by Rachel Hui in goal, with the keeper this time saving efforts from Joline Bohne and Camille Augustyn.
The Taipans frustrations started to boilover when a foul on Caitlyn Danyl was not given in their favour. This led to an increasing amount of dissent from the South Coast side which led to further indiscipline. Two players were booked and Courtney Danyl was red carded.
To rub salt into the wound keeper Rachel Hui stepped up and blasted an unstoppable freekick into the top corner to give Dural an emphatic 5-0 victory and seal the Warriors passage through to the next round.
